Marsha Wickliffe Chosen to Direct South Side Settlement

Marsha Wickliffe Named Executive Director of South Side Settlement House:

"Marsha Wickliffe has developed innovative programs to improve the safety, permanency, and quality of life for children and their families, particularly the most vulnerable. She is knowledgeable about neighborhood issues and has community development skills which make her an ideal fit for South Side Settlement House," said Joel Rabb.

Marsha Wickliffe comes to South Side Settlement from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Baltimore, Maryland, where she served on the team that developed the Family to Family Program, linking the concepts of child welfare and healthy neighborhoods. Ms. Wickliffe served as the lead consultant for the Reducing Racial Disparities and Proportionality in Child Welfare initiative for the Casey Foundation. Ms. Wickliffe is an author of Vision 2000: Working with Neighborhoods to Care for Vulnerable Children: A Blueprint.

Ms. Wickliffe holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati and Howard University School of Law. She began her career as a Reginald Heber Smith Fellow at the Cleveland Legal Aid Society. She has held positions in Children and Family Service Agencies in Cleveland and Cincinnati. She is a founding member of the George Mills Mentor Program, Columbus, Ohio, which encourages scholarship and assists high school students to apply for college. She is a member of Board of Trustees of Centenary Methodist Church, Columbus, Ohio and faculty for the East Ohio Ministerial Recruitment Institute, Cleveland, Ohio.

Ms. Wickliffe is a Columbus, Ohio native and graduate of Linden McKinley High School. "I want to bring home what I have learned in child welfare work and I look forward to listening to the concerns and hopes of south side residents," said Ms.Wickliffe. She will begin her new role as South Side Settlement Executive Director on February 1, 2009.

South Side Settlement, established in 1899, is a non-profit community agency that provides direct services to children and families and social action programs to address neighborhood needs. Programs for youth include after school, award winning cooperative child care and residential summer camp. Adults participate in social and action groups focused on education, housing, employment and health.
