Arts Freedom Awards

South Side Settlement House Celebrates Freedom of Expression Through Art

For many years South Side Settlement House has been a place where art and social justice meet. We appreciate the importance of art to the human spirit, and to the human community.

The ARTS Freedom Awards highlight the importance of art in creating a climate of social justice and concern. It is an annual celebration that honors people in our community who have utilized their talents to elevate the human condition through art.

The ARTS Freedom Awards serve the dual purpose of celebrating the power of art to influence the social good and of raising funds to support an endowment for South Side Settlement House.

The 2008 Arts Freedom Awards were held on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24th, at the Columbus Museum of Art. Larry James and Barbara Nicholson were honored for their leadership and support of arts and artists who have made Columbus a better place to live. Their patronage has made arts education available to the residents of the urban center, particularly nurturing children and youth. They have sponsored a diverse group of emerging and established artists and performers of the highest calibre, bringing them to a wide audience in the Central Ohio area.
